A KID KARTERS HANDBOOK

It has come to our attention that some tracks around the country are getting stricter when it comes to the kid kart class, so strict that some tech inspectors are requiring the OEM gaskets that originally came with the motor be in place.  In particular the “blue-green” base gasket that comes on most C50 motors from Comer.  According to Grand Products, the only importer of Comer parts in the United States, these particular gaskets are not available for sale.  Their “stock” C50 base gaskets come in two sizes (.010” & .005”) and their suggestion is to stack one of each to get close to the OEM gaskets that measures .017”.

Grand Products also informed me that there is currently litigation pending where a father is suing his local track for disqualifying his son because he did not have an OEM base gasket in place during a race.   Personally I think this is a little extreme, especially since the gasket material truly is irrelevant, it is the gasket’s thickness that is important and even then only in relationship to the overall CCs of the motor. And it is the motor’s CCs which both the WKA and IKF deem pertinent when scrutinizing a motor… not the color of the gaskets.
